These figures are based on 10 CCF per month, an accurate average usage for an Ohio family. Ohio American uses 5 to 8 CCF averages for the point of illustration, but those are not accurate average usages and therefore generate misleading statistics.
To get the 325% increase:
We took today’s water rate, $5.04 x 24.63% = $6.28 x 22.30% = $7.69 x 6.82% = $8.21 x 5.77% = $8.69
Divide $8.69 by $2.72, the water rate before OAW bought the plant, and you get a 319% increase.
Then we took today’s sewer rate, $8.26 x 24.63% = $10.29 x 22.30% = $12.59 x 6.82% = $13.45x 5.77% = $14.23
Divide $14.23 by $4.3, the sewer rate before OAW bought the plant, and you get a 330% increase.
To get an average, add water and sewer and divide by two to get a 324.5% increase.
Round to the nearest percentage = 325%.
Softening, reverse osmosis, and services charges are not added into these figures.
If the increase is granted, an OAW customer that lives in the Huber Ridge service area and uses 10 CCF of water a month will be charged $22.92 per CCF for one unit of water and sewer in 2013. $22.92 x 10 CCF = $229.20 Then add in reverse osmosis ($20.50) and service charge ($16.37) and you get $266.07 a month, or $3,192.84 per year.
